As every player climbing the professional ladder learns, each jump in competition brings its own challenges. Even the most advanced prospects need a moment to adjust, and Braden Montgomery is experiencing a bit of that natural transition right now.
Fresh off a dominant run in Double‑A where he was named Minor League Baseball Player of the Month just before his promotion, the former Texas A&M star has opened his Triple‑A stint with a modest .111/.200/.111 slash line. But context matters. It’s been two games, nine at‑bats, and nothing more. This is the definition of a small sample size, not a red flag.
And sometimes, all it takes is that first knock to get things rolling.
On Wednesday morning, Montgomery recorded his first Triple‑A hit, a one‑out single through the left side in the top of the eighth inning. The base hit sparked a rally for the Charlotte Knights, and Montgomery later came around to score the game‑tying run. Charlotte ultimately fell short, but the moment felt like the kind of breakthrough that can steady a player settling into a new level.
If Montgomery’s track record tells us anything, it’s that once he finds his rhythm, the production follows quickly.
