According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Pittsburgh Steelers will be in the market for a new running back after sending theirs to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday.
The Buccaneers have signed former Steelers running back Kenneth Gainwell on a two-year, $14 million deal. Gainwell played extremely well this season for the Steelers, which raised his price tag, making him due for a significant pay raise in Tampa Bay.
The Steelers rarely give huge contracts to running backs, so it was expected that the former Eagles RB may exit the Steelers after a very productive year as an all-purpose back for the Steelers and Aaron Rodgers. Splitting running back duties with Jaylen Warren, Gainwell led the team in receptions with 73, and had eight touchdowns on the year.
During the 2025 season, Gainwell made slightly less than $2 million, so the raise he will get with the Buccaneers is a significant increase he earned. With this move, it appears that the Bucs will move on from Rachaad White and feature Gainwell splitting time with Bucky Irving in the backfield.
Pittsburgh may look to the draft to select a replacement to go alongside Jaylen Warren.
