It has been a rough World Cup for American soccer. The United States Men’s National Team was eliminated in the Round of 16 and fans and media have since ganged up on star Christian Pulisic. Meanwhile, former USMNT star Alexi Lalas, has also been garnering a fair amount of unwanted attention for his work on FOX.
Lalas again found himself as one of the many main characters over the last few days as he defended the pricy US soccer system. While the current system has never produced a trip to the World Cup quarterfinals, it has made some people a lot of money. Lalas defended the pay-for-play system after Clay Travis pointed out that many families can’t afford to play the sport.
On Thursday former “SportsCenter” anchor Kevin Frazier became the latest person to take aim at Lalas. The current “Entertainment Tonight” host walked onto the Dan Patrick set in Lake Tahoe ready to rant about Lalas and the youth soccer system in America.
“I’ve been dying to come here and talk USA soccer,” Frazier told Patrick. “I was like, I’ve got to come here and get this off my chest. Listen man, we’ve got to stop Alexi Lalas. What’s going on? What’s happening? Alexi, slow down bro. Slow down. I mean I’ve been listening to a lot of his takes. I thought Thierry Henry was going to kill him. Zlatan wanted to take him out at one point. And I was like wow. I’ve been listening to some of these takes recently and the way every four years we lose and we go through this thing where we say what’s the problem with US soccer? And then he gives his explanation. He’s like oh the pay for play system works and it’s OK. And I’m like Alexi what are you talking about? You benefited from it like a kid from the suburbs. But back when US sucked. Sucked, sucked, sucked in Italy. You were part of the problem. You are part of the problem. Stop talking about US soccer like you know it. You don’t.”
As you can see above, Lalas has already replied and retweeted the video, again asking who should pay for “free soccer.” And that’s an excellent question. Who will pay for the free soccer? Just think about all the things you need to play soccer like a ball and…

Well, anyway. Spain and Belgium, two countries who presumably did figure out how to pay for free soccer play at 3 p.m. ET.
