Former Florida State standout Devin Vassell has reached the biggest stage in basketball. Vassell and the San Antonio Spurs advanced to the 2026 NBA Finals after defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. The victory secured San Antonio's first trip to the NBA Finals since 2014 and gave Vassell an opportunity to compete for the first championship of his professional career.

The Spurs will face the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals, which begin June 3 in San Antonio, Texas. For Florida State fans, Vassell's postseason breakthrough marks another milestone in a career that has steadily progressed since leaving Tallahassee. Selected 11th overall by San Antonio in the 2020 NBA Draft, Vassell has developed into one of the franchise's foundational pieces and has played a significant role alongside rising stars Victor Wembanyama, Dylan Harper, and Stephon Castle during the Spurs' run to the Finals.

Before becoming an NBA standout, Vassell spent two seasons at Florida State under Leonard Hamilton. After arriving as a three-star prospect, he quickly emerged as one of the ACC's top two-way players. During the 2019-20 season, Vassell averaged 12.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game while helping lead the Seminoles to a 26-5 record and the program's first ACC regular-season championship.

His breakout sophomore campaign earned him First Team All-ACC honors and established him as one of the top prospects in the 2020 NBA Draft. Since then, Vassell has continued his development in San Antonio, becoming one of the league's more versatile wing players and an important contributor on both ends of the floor.

Now, six years after hearing his name called on draft night, Vassell has reached a milestone few former Seminoles have experienced. As the Spurs prepare for the NBA Finals, the former Florida State star will have the opportunity to compete for basketball's ultimate prize while adding another chapter to an already impressive professional career.
