Over the last few months, Steve Sarkisian has been busy reshaping the Longhorns roster. That led to an active run in the transfer portal, which netted Texas multiple new faces, including former Rutgers defensive back Bo Mascoe. As the Florida native begins a new chapter of his football career, he will be an important piece of the Longhorns success.
During his final season as a Scarlet Knight, Mascoe recorded 48 total tackles and tied his career-high in pass deflections with four. The talented junior also forced two fumbles after entering the 2025 season with none in his career. Regardless of the opponent, Mascoe continued to show that he has a talent for frustrating offensive coordinators.
While Mascoe's play caught the eyes of the Longhorns, it came as no surprise to those who have followed his game. He finished his Rutgers career with 99 total tackles and eight pass deflections. Due to his performance, Mascoe has seen his playing time increase over the last two years and has taken advantage by setting career highs in various categories each season.
When Mascoe makes his Longhorns debut, he won't be the only one starting over. The Longhorns transfer portal additions include Cam Coleman, Rasheem Biles, Melvin Siana, Raheem Brown, Hollywood Smothers, Zion Williams, Ian Geffrard, and Markus Boswell. That group will join a talented core of veteran pieces.
In the SEC, Mascoe should be able to take his game to another level with the NFL Draft less than a year away. He showed at Rutgers that he could be a leader and make adjustments when needed. For many programs, including the Longhorns, those were appealing traits when Mascoe began searching for a new home.
Although more additions could be on the horizon, Mascoe is ready to show the Longhorns why adding him will help lead to more wins.
