Former Red Sox Star Xander Bogaerts Makes Padres History With Walk-Off Grand Slam originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
San Diego Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts played at Fenway Park for the first time as a visiting player one week ago.
The former Boston Red Sox four-time All-Star had another big moment on Thursday night, cracking a walk-off grand slam to lift the Padres to a 7-3 home win in 12 innings against the Colorado Rockies.
It was Bogaerts' ninth career grand slam and second since signing with San Diego in December 2022.
The 33-year-old's clutch blast was made sweeter by the fact that the Rockies intentionally walked two batters preceding Bogaerts.
The two-time World Series champion also made plenty of Padres history with Thursday's home run.
"Extra-innings walk-off grand slams in Padres franchise history: Xander Bogaerts, tonight vs. COL Manny Machado, 8/19/20 vs. TEX Adrián González, 6/2/10 vs. NYM It's the first MLB walk-off slam in extras since Patrick Bailey last Sept. 12 (there were three in the Majors in 2025)," MLB.com's Brent Maguire posted on Bluesky.
Per MLB.com Padres beat reporter AJ Cassavell, Bogaerts' dinger was also the latest walk-off slam, innings-wise in franchise history.
The five-time Silver Slugger award winner had one previous walk-off grand slam in his career, on July 14, 2018 when with the Red Sox.
Bogaerts is now just one more away from tying MLB's all-time record.
"I was actually quite glad when Xander Bogaerts hit that walk-off grand slam 2nd career walk-off slam for Bogaerts (7/14/2018 BOS vs TOR) The record for walk-off grand slams is 3 by Cy Williams, Vern Stephens, Alex Rodriguez & Giancarlo Stanton Good night," Sports Researcher/Booth Statistician James Smyth posted on Bluesky.
