After struggling at the plate so far this season, former Boston Red Sox superstar Mookie Betts deleted his social media accounts earlier this week.

"Future Hall of Famer Mookie Betts is the latest player to delete his social media accounts with ugly comments from fans berating him for his early-season struggles, ignoring the fact he has helped the Dodgers win three World Series titles since his arrival," USA Today's Bob Nightengale wrote on Sunday.

Despite his struggles this season, Betts is an eight-time All-Star, former MVP and four-time World Series champion. The 33-year-old won his first World Series with the Red Sox in 2018 and has continued his dominant career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, playing a big role in winning three more championships.

Even though Betts is slashing only .200/.252/.421 this season with six home runs and 16 runs batted in across 24 games, it's surprising how much backlash and negativity he's faced this season.

“Obviously, there’s a lot of pressure on the outside, pressure on the inside from me,” Betts said on Wednesday, per The Athletic’s Katie Woo. “My teammates, coaches, front office have all been super supportive, and trust and believe in me. But I know on the outside right now that’s not really the case. There’s a lot of negative out there. There’s so much hate out there. It’s kind of unbelievable.

“It’s like, how can you go cheer and then go and be so negative to somebody. But that’s the world today, and it just sucks sometimes. It’s not like I’m out here trying to sabotage the team. I think everybody in the world knows that’s the complete opposite of what I’m trying to do.”

Betts has dealt with his fair share of injuries and struggles this season, but he is still a star who played a big role in the Dodgers' back-to-back World Series titles the past two seasons. Unfortunately, he felt the need to delete his social media accounts as he strives to return to form moving forward.
