Former Raiders pass rusher Aldon Smith has died at the age of 36, the team announced Saturday. Smith played one season with the Raiders in 2015, making seven starts in nine games and recording 3.5 sacks for Oakland.

The cause of his death was not announced.

The Raiders released the following statement, sharing that the organization is “deeply saddened” to learn of his passing.

Smith began his career with the 49ers in 2011, finishing the season as the runner-up for Defensive Rookie of the Year. He was then voted an All-Pro in his second season in 2012 when he had 19.5 sacks for San Francisco.

He was drafted seventh overall by the 49ers and was the fastest player ever to 30 sacks, recording a total of 33.5 in his first two seasons alone.

Smith finished his career with the Cowboys in 2020 after missing the previous four years due to suspensions.
