The cause of his death was not announced.
The Raiders released the following statement, sharing that the organization is “deeply saddened” to learn of his passing.
Smith began his career with the 49ers in 2011, finishing the season as the runner-up for Defensive Rookie of the Year. He was then voted an All-Pro in his second season in 2012 when he had 19.5 sacks for San Francisco.
He was drafted seventh overall by the 49ers and was the fastest player ever to 30 sacks, recording a total of 33.5 in his first two seasons alone.
