Former New England Patriots offensive tackle Vederian Lowe signed a two-year, $12 million deal with the San Francisco 49ers, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Monday.
Lowe was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He was traded to the Patriots in August 2023 in exchange for a 2024 sixth-round draft pick.
He appeared in 11 games in his first year with the Patriots. His position versatility initially stood out to the team, with him starting four games at left tackle and another four games on the right side. He started in 13 games in the 2024 season, before serving as the backup to first-round draft pick Will Campbell in 2025.
Lowe proved to be a solid backup option for the Patriots last season, when Campbell missed time due to an MCL injury. The Patriots will have their work cut out for them in finding a suitable No. 2 option to replace the veteran offensive lineman.
They could address the need in the draft or look to add another reliable veteran player in free agency.
