Jordan Devey, a former NFL player, has died. He was 38.

His wife, Linsey Devey, confirmed his death on Instagram, sharing a photo taken at his hospital bedside, as well as a photo from the couple’s wedding day.

“Today would have been our 15th year anniversary,” Linsey captioned her Thursday, July 23, post. “We have filled the walls of our homes and hearts with countless memories, joys, struggles, and triumphs.”

“We brought 4 beautiful children into this world that have your eyes, freckles, and compassion,” she continued. “You were our hero and our hearts ache in your absence. We love you. We miss you. And as you said in your last words to me, ‘We’ll talk soon ❤️.’ ”

Linsey’s tribute to her late husband was accompanied by a link to a GoFundMe that was set up to provide financial support to their family after the athlete’s death.

The description for the fundraiser remembers Jordan as a “devoted husband,” “loving father” and “cherished member” of the football community.

“Tragically, Jordan took his own life, leaving his family to navigate an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time,” the GoFundMe reads.

It continues, “As they face overwhelming emotional and financial challenges, including mounting medical expenses, the community is coming together to support Linsey and their children.”

“The funds raised will help ease the financial burden, allowing them to focus on healing and moving forward without the added stress of immediate expenses,” the GoFundMe description adds.

Devey played for five NFL teams over seven seasons, including the New England Patriots, the San Francisco 49ers and the Buffalo Bills. He retired in 2021 following 44 career games, according to the NFL.

Devey later settled in Idaho and was a football coach at a local high school, per Fox 13.

His mother, Leslie, and his father, Kerry, told the outlet that the family believes he was suffering from CTE before his death. The neurodegenerative disease is commonly linked to sports that involve repeated head injuries.

“Because of the condition of what happened with his death ... we’re not going to be able to test for that and have a definitive answer,” Kerry told Fox 13.

Devey’s parents are now urging those who are struggling with their mental health to speak out and seek help.

“We want people to understand that it’s okay to reach out,” Leslie told Fox 13. “That help is there, and there’s nothing wrong with you for reaching out. You’re not fighting the battle alone.”
