Former NFL GM Shares Positive Outlook For Jared Wilson Amid Position Change originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
A former NFL general manager is eager to see the new-look New England Patriots offensive line, and Jared Wilson moving back to center.
New England’s offensive line was an issue last season, especially in the Super Bowl as Drake Maye was constantly under pressure. The Patriots selected Caleb Lomu in the first round and will shift Jared Wilson from guard to be the team’s starting center.
Ahead of training camp, former Tennessee Titans general manager and now NFL analyst Ran Carthon said he’s eager to see Wilson play his natural position.
“From a physical standpoint, I think he has a chance to be really good at center," Carthon said to ESPN. "And also seeing the mental part, because there's a lot on the plate of a center in Josh's system, and how he works together with Drake Maye. One of the best friends to a quarterback is a center.”
The Patriots selected Wilson in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft out of Georgia. He played in 21 games from 2021 to 2023 as the backup center before becoming the starting center in 2024 and earning second-team All-SEC honours.
Although he started 13 games at left guard last season for New England, Wilson is expected to shift back to center and be the Patriots' starter.
