Former Mr. Basketball finalist Merritt Alderink is on the move again.

After completing a year playing at Indiana State, the Zeeland West graduate hit the transfer portal and has committed to play at Eastern Michigan University, another NCAA Division I program.

As a freshman at Indiana State, the 6-foot-7 forward averaged 2.5 points per game with a season-high of 11. In 13 games, he totaled 33 points and 20 rebounds in 61 minutes.

"I want to express my sincere gratitute to the coaching staff, particularly Coach Slessinger, my teammates, the trainers and managers, and the entire Sycamore family for welcoming me to the Terre Haute community. It's a special place! The lessons learned, the effort to battle to get better alongside my teammates, and the genuine relationships will stay with me forever," Alderink wrote in a social media post. "Though my time at ISU is coming to an end, this experience will never be forgotten."

Alderink led Zeeland West to its best season in school history that finished with a trip to the Breslin Center for the state semifinals.

He now joins an Eagles team that was 16-16 last season.
