Former Lions linebacker Julian Okwara signed a deal with the Cleveland Browns on Monday.
The team announced the signing, suggesting they'll treat Okwara less as the outside linebacker he played in Detroit and more like a full-time defensive end. Okwara played linebacker for four seasons with the Lions.
The Lions drafted Okwara out of Notre Dame in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He had his best year in Detroit in 2021 with five sacks and 27 tackles but missed multiple games due to injury and underperformed in the last two seasons of his rookie contract.
Okwara signed with the Arizona Cardinals practice squad at the beginning of last season and was elevated to the active roster in September. He appeared in 13 games, getting one sack and 18 tackles.
Details of Okwara's deal with the Browns have yet to be released.
