Former Kentucky head basketball coach Orlando "Tubby" Smith has been named to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame as a part of the Class of 2026.

Smith coached the Wildcats to the 1998 national championship in his inaugural season. UK won 35 games that year and beat Utah 78-69 in the title game.

He took UK to the NCAA Tournament in all 10 of his seasons as coach, making four Elite Eights along the way.

Smith won five regular season SEC championships, five SEC Tournament titles and was named SEC Coach of the Year on three occasions. He led Kentucky to 22 or more wins in all 10 of his seasons leading the program from 1997-2007.

Smith will be joined in the hall of fame class by Jay Wright, Ted Owens, Danny Ainge, Glen Rice and Walt Hazzard.

“The Class of 2026 represents the very best of college basketball – individuals whose performance, leadership and impact helped shape the game at the highest level,” said Kevin Henderson, CEO of the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame, in a release. “Their legacies will forever be preserved as part of the sport’s rich history.”

The Class of 2026 will be inducted on Oct. 22 at the College Basketball Experience in Kansas City, Missouri.
