The New York Jets fired former general manager Joe Douglas last offseason and replaced him with Darren Mougey.
Douglas spent the 2025 season as a senior personnel director with the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, he's receiving interest for a GM role for the first time since his Jets dismissal.
The Atlanta Falcons have requested permission to interview Douglas for their vacant GM position, according to multiple national reports.
The Falcons have been holding a thorough process to identify their next GM. Douglas is apparently in contention.
The Falcons have a unique set up. They've already hired their new head coach in Kevin Stefanski. They made legendary quarterback Matt Ryan president of football operations and awarded him final say over major decisions. That's not exactly ideal for a GM, but Douglas can't exactly afford to be picky either.
Douglas did some good with the Jets, but ultimately failed to solve the quarterback position, whiffing on two quarterbacks in Zach Wilson and Aaron Rodgers.
Ultimately, his 30-64 record over five seasons with the organization led to his firing. Douglas has since hoped to receive another opportunity to lead an NFL franchise.
Douglas will attempt to team up with Ryan and Stefanski in Atlanta as the Falcons' new GM. There's a ton of competition for the role. We'll see if Douglas succeeds.
