Giovanni Malagò has been elected president of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) in succession of Gabriele Gravina, who resigned after the national team failed to qualify for a World Cup for the third time in a row.
Malagò, 67, received 68.58% of the vote at a FIGC assembly on Monday and called for a joint effort.
"I can't do anything on my own but together with you I can achieve everything," Malagò said, speaking of a "deep and touching feeling of responsibility."
Malagò is a top sports official as he was Italian Olympic Committee president from 2012 to 2025 and organizing committee president of this year's Milan/Cortina Winter Olympics.
He will be tasked to make Italian football successful again and among his first duties will be finding a new national team coach.
Gennaro Gattuso stepped down as coach along with Gravina and national team coordinator Gianluigi Buffon after Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup in March.
Silvio Baldini acted as interim coach for two June friendlies.
