Illinois native Lexi Rodriguez won the 95th annual AAU Sullivan Award, given since 1930 to the nation's most outstanding athlete at the collegiate or Olympic level.
Rodriguez is a four-time all-America volleyball player from the University of Nebraska, where the three-time Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Year finished as the school's leader in career digs. She is the third volleyball player to win the award and first from Nebraska.
Rodriguez played volleyball at Sterling High School, leading the program to Illinois High School Association Class 3A state championships in 2018 and 2019. She now plays for LOVB Omaha of League One Volleyball.

"To be here with Olympic and World champions, it hasn't sunk in yet," Rodriguez said in a release. "Thank you to the AAU for this incredible honor and want to give credit to all the athletes nominated. It's been an incredible couple of days."
Rodriguez was picked with a combination of votes from the public, from an award committee, past winners and finalists, and the media. The other finalists were Trey Augustine (Michigan State and Olympic hockey), Cooper Flagg (Duke basketball), Ashton Jeanty (Boise State football), Lee Kiefer (Olympic fencing) and Ilia Malinin (figure skating).
Previous winners include Olympic icons Jackie Joyner-Kersee (1986), Carl Lewis (1981), Michael Phelps (2003) and Shawn Johnson (2008), plus football hall of famer Peyton Manning. WNBA star Caitlin Clark won the previous two awards, in 2023 and 2024.
