The Minnesota Vikings signed Kyler Murray at the start of free agency. A week later, Minnesota signed Carson Wentz, appearing to signal the end of the J.J. McCarthy era.

So far, the Vikings have said that McCarthy will be part of a "quarterback competition", but it's hard to envision anyone except Murray being the team's Week 1 starter. What if McCarthy can't beat out Wentz for the QB2 spot?

Robert Griffin III believes Minnesota should trade McCarthy after their recent signings. Griffin believes a change of scenery could benefit McCarthy, saying it appears head coach Kevin O'Connell already has his eyes on another quarterback.

Trade J.J. McCarthy. Give him a chance to go grow somewhere else....Sam Darnold just went and won a Super Bowl when you could have held on to him and Daniel Jones just won and had the Colts in prime position to go to the playoffs and go deep in the playoffs before he got hurt. J.J. seems to be the odd man out, and the storylines around him in Minnesota seem like they've already closed. Open it back up for him, allow him to go somewhere else, allow him to have his Sam Darnold moment, his Baker Mayfield moment. And I know that might be tough for the organization to swallow, but it's the best thing for J.J. McCarthy.

When would the Vikings trade McCarthy? And what would they get in return for him? McCarthy has played only 10 games through two seasons, but he is still just 23 years old. He's only two years removed from being the 10th overall pick, so if someone was interested in him back then, they may be willing to trade a mid-round pick for him.

Josh Rosen, the 10th pick in the 2018 draft, was traded to the Dolphins for a second-round pick (63rd overall) only one year later when the Arizona Cardinals determined they would draft Kyler Murray first overall in the 2019 draft.

Trey Lance was traded to the Cowboys for a fourth-round pick two years after the 49ers selected him third overall. So maybe McCarthy's value lies somewhere within that range.

Right now, the Vikings are trying to convince the public, and maybe themselves, that there is a future with McCarthy. But their recent moves have raised questions about McCarthy's long-term future in Minnesota.

Could he be on the move? And could he be traded over draft weekend? All eyes will be on the Vikings' quarterback situation, once again.
