Former Florida general manager of player personnel Jacob LaFrance is joining former Florida head coach Billy Napier at James Madison as the associate athletic director for football personnel, according to CBS Sports' Chris Hummer.

LaFrance spent four years with the Gators, coming to Gainesville from the University of Louisiana alongside Napier. The duo recruited the top class in the Sun Belt Conference in 2019 and 2020, the same conference JMU is in. At Florida, LaFrance helped Napier and the Gators sign a pair of top-10 classes in 2024 and 2025.

Napier often heralded his front office's evaluation abilities, naming LaFrance as a key component of the recruiting process while at Florida.

"We’ve got great people in our personnel department. Jacob LaFrance, Nick McDonald, Joe Hamilton was an All-Star in this cycle. Bird Sherrill," said Napier after the 2023 early signing period closed. "We’ve got really, really good people in the back there. I can’t compliment them enough relative to the evaluation process, the roster management process, young, talented, and certainly their work ethic was impressive."

A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, LaFrance graduated in 2012 from LSU and spent 2009 to 2014 as a personnel assistant with the Tigers. During that time, LSU signed five top-10 classes. He spent the next two seasons overseeing day-to-day recruiting operations as an analyst with Maryland. He oversaw prospect evaluation, roster management and assisted with NFL liaisons on visits and research at UTSA from 2016 to 2019.
