Ask Philadelphia Eagles fans and media members their opinion about Kenneth Gainwell, and you're sure to hear split responses. Some thought he was underrated. Some were glad he left. One thing is certain. He became one of Aaron Rodgers' favorite targets and reinvented himself during one year with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Now, he's getting paid!
Per multiple sources, including ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the former fifth-round selection agrees to terms on a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that will pay him $14 miliion. The deal can be made official when the new league year begins on March 11 at 4 p.m. EST.
Last season, Gainwell gained 537 yards on 114 carries and scored five rushing touchdowns. He also added 73 receptions for 486 yards and three more touchdowns. He was named the Steelers’ team MVP after a career year. He now joins a backfield that already features Bucky Irving. Expect the former Eagle to contribute in Tampa immediately.
