Former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson is moving to the broadcast booth for the 2026 college football season. CBS Sports announced that Pederson will serve as an analyst for select games on CBS Sports Network. Former LSU and Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly is also joining the network’s expanded college football coverage.
Pederson’s experience as an NFL quarterback, offensive coordinator and Super Bowl-winning head coach gives CBS an analyst who can explain the game from multiple perspectives.
Pederson spent 13 seasons in the NFL, primarily as a backup quarterback. He appeared in 100 regular-season games and made 17 starts for the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers, Eagles and Cleveland Browns. He completed 286 of 522 passes for 2,762 yards, 12 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. Pederson went 3-14 as a starter, producing a .176 winning percentage. His most significant playing opportunity came with Philadelphia in 1999. Pederson started nine games during Andy Reid’s first season, going 2-7 while helping provide a transition to rookie quarterback Donovan McNabb.
Pederson was also a member of Green Bay’s Super Bowl XXXI championship team. He served as a reserve behind Brett Favre when the Packers defeated the New England Patriots 35-21.
Pederson returned to Philadelphia as an assistant under Reid before becoming Kansas City’s offensive coordinator. The Eagles hired him as their head coach in 2016. He compiled a 42-37-1 regular-season record during five seasons, producing a .531 winning percentage. Philadelphia went 4-2 in the postseason under Pederson, a .667 winning percentage, and reached the playoffs in three consecutive seasons. His defining achievement came during the 2017 season. Pederson led the Eagles to a 13-3 record and the No. 1 seed in the NFC before losing starting quarterback Carson Wentz to a knee injury.
With Nick Foles replacing Wentz, Philadelphia defeated Atlanta and Minnesota before earning a 41-33 victory over New England in Super Bowl LII. Pederson’s aggressive approach included the “Philly Special,” the fourth-down touchdown pass to Foles that became the signature play of the franchise’s first Super Bowl championship. Pederson later coached Jacksonville for three seasons, compiling a 22-29 regular-season record with one AFC South title. His career NFL head-coaching record, including the playoffs, is 69-69-1 for an even .500 winning percentage.
Kelly will work as an analyst on select games, appear on the Tuesday edition of “Inside College Football” and contribute to CBS Sports HQ. Both former coaches will bring recent sideline experience to the network. For Pederson, broadcasting provides another opportunity to remain connected to football. His playing career taught him how quarterbacks prepare, while his coaching career demonstrated how championships are constructed. CBS will now ask him to translate that knowledge for viewers.
