The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Chicago Bears 20-17 in the NFC divisional round on Sunday to advance to the NFC Championship game next week against the top-seeded Seattle Seahawks. And it was a former Washington Commanders draft pick who played hero for the Rams in their overtime win.

Safety Kamren Curl, a seventh-round pick from Arkansas in the 2020 NFL Draft, spent the first four seasons of his career in Washington. He signed a two-year deal with the Rams in the 2024 offseason, and on Sunday, he intercepted Chicago quarterback Caleb Williams in overtime to not only stop the Bears from advancing into field goal range but also give the ball back to Matthew Stafford and the offense. Curl's interception led Stafford to go on a game-winning drive.

What a phenomenal catch from Curl. Essentially, he was the Rams' hero in Sunday's win. Had Bears wide receiver D.J. Moore caught the ball, Chicago would have been in field goal range at a time when the next score won the game.

Now, the 26-year-old Curl is one game away from playing in the Super Bowl.

Washington fans mostly remember Curl positively from his time with the Commanders. In four seasons, Curl played in 60 games for Washington, making 53 starts. He was one of the rare success stories from former head coach/GM Ron Rivera's four drafts.

The Commanders need safety help, and Curl will once again be a free agent in 2026. Current Washington safety Jeremy Reaves, who was Curl's teammate for four seasons, was paying attention on Sunday.

Curl signed a two-year, $9 million contract with the Rams in March 2024. You can bet he's due a raise this March.
