David Blough is up to the task.
One former coaching colleague of Blough recently praised Blough, saying he believes Blough is ready to be an offensive coordinator in the NFL.
Tavita Pritchard served as the Washington Commanders quarterback coach for the 2023-2025 seasons. During the 2024 season, his quarterback Jayden Daniels won the NFL Rookie of the Year award. Pritchard's assistant was a young coach, David Blough. Blough had been hired by then-offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. Blough had been a quarterback under Kingsbury with the Arizona Cardinals.
In November of Washington's 2025 season, Pritchard was hired by Stanford as their head coach. Consequently, Blough was promoted to quarterback coach. In January, head coach Dan Quinn wasted no time: he promoted Blough to the Commanders' offensive coordinator position after Kingsbury departed.
"I really enjoyed my time working with David," expressed Pritchard this past week at the ACC coaches preseason press conference. "David Blough, smart, a great football mind. One thing I know you will get from Blough, you're going to get a competitor."
Jayden Daniels would certainly agree with this. Blough often pushed Daniels in passing drills, competing against him and pushing him to improve his skills. Pritchard continued, "You're going to get a guy who's going to leave no stone unturned when it comes to finding a way to win, finding a way to get the first down and score a touchdown."
Pritchard then volunteered something else to consider in the coaching staff of the Commanders. "I also have a big belief in Dan Quinn, in how he will be able to empower Blough and the rest of that staff." Pritchard stated that he believes they will return to the playoffs. "I have so much reverence and respect for Dan Quinn. I am excited for that group, for David Blough, for DQ. I am looking forward to following them this year."
Blough has yet to be the one having to call the plays with the clock running during an NFL game. Thus, no one knows what will transpire in his rookie season. However, a common denominator among everyone who has worked with Blough is that he is intelligent and will be able to learn quickly how to adapt to his new role.
Commanders Wire certainly hopes Pritchard is correct regarding Blough.
