Mike Evans may no longer wear a Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniform, but his reputation as one of the NFL's premier wide receivers hasn't changed.
In their latest wide receiver rankings, PFF's Dalton Wasserman and Max Chadwick placed Evans at No. 16 entering the 2026 season, now as a member of the San Francisco 49ers. While injuries ended his remarkable streak of consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in 2025, PFF believes the veteran still has plenty left to offer.
Wasserman and Chadwick cited Evans' ability to win contested catches as one reason they remain confident in his outlook. Despite appearing in only eight games and drawing just 59 targets last season, Evans still hauled in 12 contested receptions, a figure that ranked among the NFL's top 20 wide receivers. They also believe his ability to consistently win one-on-one matchups should make him an ideal fit in Kyle Shanahan's offensive system.
Evans leaves Tampa Bay as arguably the greatest receiver in franchise history. During his 12 seasons with the Buccaneers, he became one of the NFL's most productive and consistent playmakers, helping lead the organization to a Super Bowl title while establishing an unmatched résumé that included one of the longest streaks of 1,000-yard receiving seasons in league history.
His departure also signals the beginning of a new chapter for the Buccaneers' offense. Tampa Bay is now expected to lean heavily on Emeka Egbuka, Chris Godwin, and its younger receiving corps to replace the production Evans delivered for more than a decade. It's a significant transition, but one the organization has spent the last two offseasons preparing for.
Even at 33 years old, PFF clearly believes Evans can continue playing at a high level. If he stays healthy, the former Buccaneers star will have an opportunity to prove his success wasn't tied to one team and continue building what is already one of the most accomplished careers of any wide receiver of his generation.
