Former Denver Broncos running back Derrick Clark died at age 54 on Feb. 19, reported 96.9 FM in Springfield, Missouri.
Clark was an undrafted player out of NAIA's Evangel University, signing with Denver in 1994. Clark spent only one year with the Broncos, In his one season in Denver, Clark rushed 56 times for 168 yards and three touchdowns. He also returned kickoffs for 34 yards.
Following his rookie season, Clark later spent time on the Broncos' practice squad, and he had a brief stint with the Oakland Raiders in 1997, but did not appear in a game with them.
Following his NFL career, Clark played five seasons in NFL Europe for the Rhein Fire, leading them to the 1998 World Bowl Championship. He led the league with 21 touchdowns during his five seasons in Germany.
Clark also played for the XFL's Orlando Rage, leading the team with seven touchdowns in 2001. He was one of three Evangel University players to ever hit the NFL, and was inducted into the college's Hall of Fame in 2021.
