The odd saga around Joe Mixon, formerly of the Cincinnati Bengals, ultimately led to his release from the Houston Texans this past March.

Mixon remains a free agent now and he’s just been spotlighted as a player who fell off the top 10 positional rankings from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler this year.

“Mixon's 2024 debut season with the Texans was one of the best of his career,” Fowler wrote. “However, he missed all of 2025 with a foot injury and was released by Houston this March. He's still unsigned as of July 17, as rookies begin to arrive to some training camps.”

Mixon put up 1,016 yards and 11 scores on a 4.1 per-carry average over 14 games with Houston in 2024, but a leg injury cost him all of 2025 well before his release.

Reports at the time said Mixon requested his release. But another said Mixon’s NFL career was “in doubt” due to injuries.

Given all of the above, it’s not surprising Mixon fell off a list made from polling those around the NFL. Now, it’ll be interesting to see if he surfaces with another team in training camp before the regular season.
