Aaron Rodgers has yet to make his decision, but the New York Giants are done waiting in their quest to sign a veteran quarterback.
Jameis Winston and the Giants have agreed to terms on a two-year deal worth $8 million, an individual with knowledge of the situation confirmed for NorthJersey.com and The Record on Friday night.
The Giants are still expected to pursue their quarterback of the future in next month's NFL Draft. They currently hold the No. 3 overall pick and should be considered strong suitors for Cam Ward of Miami and Shedeur Sanders of Colorado, believed to be the top two quarterbacks in the Class of 2025.
It's unclear if the Giants remain in the mix for Rodgers, who visited with the Steelers in Pittsburgh on Friday, leaving their meeting without an agreed upon deal.
"Start spreading the neWs," Winston wrote on his X, formerly Twitter, account on Friday, seemingly confirming his new team with an apple emoji.
Winston, 31, makes things pretty entertaining for the most part with the way he plays.
He also doesn’t win many games. And if you try to change Jameis by limiting his turnover-worthy throws, you strip him of what makes him Jameis. During Super Bowl week, Jameis was working as a media member with FOX and notably asked Saquon Barkley which team he should consider in free agency.
"I think New York needs a quarterback right now," Barkley said.
Winston asked which New York team, and Barkley responded the Giants.
Winston signed a one-year deal with the Browns last offseason after beginning his career in Tampa Bay and New Orleans. The 31-year-old quarterback played in 12 games last year for Cleveland and started seven after Deshaun Watson tore his Achilles.
The Browns were 2-5 in Winston's starts as he threw for 2,121 yards on a 61.1% completion percentage, 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He offers two sides of a QB coin, and his performance against the Broncos in December when he threw for 497 yards and four touchdowns while also getting intercepted three times, including a pair of Pick 6s.
More to come on this developing story.
