Could someone please respond to the following questions:

a) Who started on the D-Line replacing KVB. How did King/Johnson and Wakefield look?

b) Who started on the O-Line? Did "BIG" play?

c) On one thread, it mentioned that Graves may have "miffed" with the Bryant Johnson pick. Yet I see he caught one pass for 25 yds which was right behind Boldin's and Gilmore's 30 yds. What's everyone's thinking here?

d) Are Bell's and Stark's knee sprains something to worry about?

e) What is the status of the Gramatica versus Duncan competition?

Walter Mitchell........my coffee tastes terrible without your Saturday Thoughts article. Get it up man!

a)They started in the "Chief" d fromation which is 3 down linemen and like 5 db's or something so I didn't get to see who was in thier...but I did here Pace's and Kings names mentioned alot! They got 2 sacks on the first 3 plays...

B) No...big did not play...I know Reggie Wells got his first start on the O-line yesterday...he started out a little slow but held his own. The starters were Chris Dishman, Anthony Clemment, Pete Kendell, Reggie wells, Cameron Spikes...I think...

C)BJ started slow and didn't look so hot at first...but as the game went on he was better and better...I think he will be very good...but not as much of an impact as Quan Boldin...this kid can flat out play!!!He was all over the field tonight...this kid is gonna be a star!

D)From what I heard Bell is fine and was walking around after the game...Starks thier not sure about..bvut what else is new...

E)I think Grammatica's a shoe in..even though Duncan still has longer kick-offs ...but Grammatica has improved on K/O's..and the 50 yard fg was nice...

Portland Oregon these days.
I felt bad for Duncan -- very first kickoff was brilliant, high, into the end zone. Then we got a flag -- apparently we weren't supposed to kick just yet.

The next was bounced along the field. But they didn't return for a lot, and went three and out with our defense.

I don't think there's any doubt we took the right quarterback. Stewart looked like a poor-man's Jake imitation, while Blake was poised, confident, and totally in control.

kind of strange start..on the 1st defensive play from scrimmage..we started out the defense with like 12 guys in the huddle..and pace ran off the field and we were left with 3 down lineman (wakefield, bryant and I think Davis)..5 defensive backs (4 startes and I think Lucas) and 3 linebackers (thompson, fisher and Mckinnon)..kordell was confused and the bears started off poorly.. I think pace came into the game on the 2nd or 3rd play - but I am not sure of alignment...will try to watch replay.

The stats were misleading in my opinion...kordell put up a little better numbers than blake - but watching the game blake appeared to be 2x the qb kordell was... I think most of the passes kordell missed guys were open and he skipped the ball like 2x before they got to the receiver. Kordell had one great drive when we went into the prevent to end 2nd half. other than that drive - he was lost..

Actually.. I think mccown looked better. What I think happened was he got off a couple of good runs...the defense decided he was fast (which is he)...and perhaps they should stay in their lines and stay with containment..which stopped the all out assault on josh - he settled down and made a couple nice throws..For what it is worth - mccown looked about 10x better than rex grossman - who was completely awful. He thought Cromaitre was still his teammate at florida and threw a pass right to him. But..rex is a rookie..but a few qbs (like dorsey and simms) are looking alot better (but they are on better teams)..

the oline: wells (replacing shelton), dishman, kendall (center), spikes and clement. 4 of the 5 were playing great - and wells did not play well at all..he was not so much overpowered - but he was going the wrong way and might have had more tackles than urlacher for the bears.. wells was confused on the screen pass to emmit ..emmit tripped over wells and lost like 5 yards..probably would have been an ok gain if wells had gotten in front of emiitt and mowed down a guy (or just gotten out of the way)..they did call a penalty on wells that was not his fault...he was on the end as a receiver (he was lined up at tackle)..someone was supposed to be on the outside of him - but they were not...wells was flagged for the penalty - not his fault..he was whipped a time or two - but his biggest mistakes were tripping other cardinals players and being in the wrong place.

The Cardinals sometimes will run a 3-3-5 this year.

Because we have 3 good safeties, and one of which is an absolute stud and is close to being a LB (Wilson), we are able to run that alignment in certain situations.

Wakefield had his best game so far, easily.

King and Pace shed more blocks and made more plays in one half than KVB made in six game stretches. Sorry, but that's the truth. As I see it. ;)

O-line, I agree with pinnacle for the most part, although I think Wells did great for a sixth round pick from a Div III school. Kendall got beat badly once. So, badly, he was turned around and standing right there to recover the ball after his guy knocked it out of Blake's hands.

I read the Bickley column on the game where he already brought out the word "bust" with Johnson. Don't see that at all.

Kicking competition is over IMO. Gramatica cinched it last night.

I noticed that, too. The comment is just plain stupid and it proves just how big a jerk Bickley is!! WTF is his rationale for calling Johson a bust? Receivers basicly never make any contribution in their first year, because it's a position where players take a long time to develop. Aren't Johnson allowed the time to adjust to the pros? Johnson is the leading receiver from "elite" group of (the top 7 WRs considered quality starting material, who were all drafted in the first two rounds) receivers in this year's draft. That classifies him as a bust? Simply amazing!
