The Pittsburgh Penguins will take on the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Philadelphia clinched a playoff spot on Monday with a shootout win over the Carolina Hurricanes at home. With the win, the Flyers punched their ticket to a first-round matchup with their in-state rivals, the Penguins, which many fans will be looking forward to.

“Couldn't have drawn it up any better, Battle of Pennsylvania, and it's going to be a good one,” Flyers forward Owen Tippett said postgame on Monday, via NHL.com. “We're excited.”

Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet, meanwhile, is eager for the matchup as he gets to coach against his former team. Tocchet is a former Penguins assistant coach, and he knows the series will be a battle.

“I won a couple of cups with (Sidney) Crosby, (Evgeni) Malkin, (Kris) Letang (in 2016 and 2017). These guys, they don't die,” said Tocchet. “These guys are just warriors. We're going to have our hands full, and we have to have some game-planning here this week.

“But those guys don't die. It's going to be a tough series, and we're going to have to go after those guys.”

When the Flyers and Penguins meet in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs, it will be the eighth time the intrastate rivals will face off in the playoffs and the first since the first round of the 2018 playoffs, which the Penguins won in six games.
