Well, it looks like the rebuild is coming to a close.
For the first time since 2000, the Philadelphia Flyers have advanced to the second round of the NHL playoffs.
A few days after the Flyers eliminated the Pittsburgh Penguins from the playoffs, Philadelphia will start a battle with the Carolina Hurricanes in the second round of the playoffs.
This series will be the first NHL game to start the second round.
Here's everything you need to know about the second-round series.
The Flyers knew going in they'd see an old friend in the second round. It would either be former star Claude Giroux, who is still playing for the Ottawa Senators or the Carolina Hurricanes, coached by legendary Flyer Rod Brind'Amour.
The Hurricanes swept the Senators in the first round, meaning they have already advanced to the second round.
The Flyers will start their series with the Hurriacanes on Saturday, May 2.
Game 1 will begin at 8 p.m.
The Flyers vs. Hurricanes Game 1 will air on ABC.
The Flyers lost three of four to the Hurricanes this year, but every game went past regulation. The two teams are evenly matched. Also, this is the first time the Flyers will play the Carolina Hurricanes in the postseason. They've never met the Hartford Whalers in the playoffs either.
Few expected the Flyers to make the playoffs. Even fewer thought they'd win a round. They probably won't win a second round as the rebuild continues, but this was a huge step for Philly. But Carolina rolls. Look for Philly to win Game 1, though, since the Hurricanes have been idle since sweeping their first round foe. Prediction: Hurricanes in six.
