Florida baseball scored big on the recruiting trail Thursday, flipping outfielder Braylen Montgomery's commitment from the Oklahoma Sooners to the Gators, as announced on his personal social media account.

The 6-foot-4, 213-pound prospect out of Walker (Louisiana) is one of the country's top outfielders in the 2026 cycle. Perfect Game lists him as the No. 231 overall draft prospect, while Prep Baseball has him as the No. 4 overall player in Louisiana after earning First Team All-State honors this past year.

Montgomery batted .424 with six home runs, 29 RBI, and 19 stolen bases during his 2025 junior season, per GeauxPreps. During his varsity debut campaign as a sophomore, he hit .373 with seven home runs, 38 RBI, and 19 stolen bases.

According to his Perfect Game scouting report, Montgomery "stands out physically" and possesses a "big and strong build with plenty of projection remaining," along with an "outstanding combination of speed and power potential." Fleet of foot, he is a "6.35 runner in the sixty" who "moves well to the ball in the outfield, fields the ball cleanly out front with a long and loose arm swing, (and) makes low and accurate throws with good carry."

At the plate, the right-handed hitter "starts from a spread stance with a short and consistent weight shift into his swing, big bat speed and leverage, works to the middle of the field with more power to come as he learns to turn the barrel, physical and fast swing."

The Pelican State product signed with the Sooners last fall but is in the process of being released from his agreement. He joins newly-hired Florida assistant coach Todd Butler — who was OU’s recruiting coordinator and is also a Louisiana native — with the Orange and Blue.
