Florida basketball is to begin its postseason run this week.
The Gators will face a more than familiar opponent to open tournament action as UF will face Kentucky for a third time in the last month.
The Gators, who have won 11 straight, closed out the season with an 84-77 road win over Wildcats. Kentucky has won its first two SEC tournament games after defeating LSU 87-82 and then Missouri 78-72.
During UF's current 11-game winning streak, the Gators are out-shooting opponents, 52% to 38% from the field and leading to a plus-21.7 scoring margin (92.4 to 70.6). UF is also dishing 19.7 assists per game vs. 10.6 for its opponents. Rueben Chinyelu has averaged 13.0 rebounds per game. Urban Klavzar is 27-for-55 and Isaiah Brown is 9-for-20 from three, while Xaivian Lee has dished out 66 assists.
Florida built as much as a 20-point lead, but Kentucky cut the deficit to five with less than a minute to go.
Florida's Thomas Haugh led the Gators with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Boogie Fland recorded 16 points.
Former Gator Denzel Aberdeen was held to 15 points, while UK's Otega Oweh scored 28 points.
Florida 85, Kentucky 76: Gator fans will hope that the third time is not the charm. Kentucky managed to play Florida close in the last regular season game at home. However, Kentucky will have the burden of having to play its third game in three days, while UF will be fresh. Florida has matched up well vs Wildcats and should do so again.
