After one of their biggest 2028 commitments to date, the Nittany Lions lost an opportunity to make an even bigger splash. Five-star wide receiver Jett Harrison was seen as a premier prospect in this cycle that the Nittany Lions simply couldn't ignore due to his in-state credentials. However, legacy seemed to play a big role in Harrison's July 1 commitment to Penn State's biggest rival, Ohio State.

Harrison was the No. 4 recruit in the country in his class and No. 2 receiver, proving to be highly coveted. Still, the Harrison family name is intrinsically linked with the Columbus school. He is, after all, the brother of Marvin Harrison Jr., one of OSU's best receivers over the past couple of years. While he wasn't explicit about how he made his decision, Jett will now try to follow in his footsteps.

For Penn State, focus may now shift more towards internal development, as they welcome transfer receivers Chase Sowell and Brett Eskildsen, as well as returner Koby Howard. It may be up to those three players to boost Penn State's standing amongst potential recruits. However, in the 2027 cycle, the Nittany Lions are still holding out hope that they can land four-star prospect Khalil Taylor. This decision will sting, but it doesn't mean the Nittany Lions should lose hope on the recruiting trail.
