Sigh really hope not will be a hard pill to swallow if it happens.... will be hard to make playoffs if we have to find a good qb and replace fitz at sametime. If palmer does retire what are odds cards go after romo?

Man, it'll SUCK if they both retire. That window for ONE more run, which I can still fool myself is still somewhat ajar, SLAMS shut if they're done.

Caveat---they say that when you are seriously contemplating retirement, you already have one foot out the door. It's human nature.

Palmer face expression this season was different then before
did look a bit lost like if he was aware of finishing his journey as a player

Carson Palmer indicated that he is hopeful but not committed to playing football in 2017 in a text message to Arizona Central's Dan Bickley.

"I guess nothing is ever official until it is, but I'd like to play if my body responds the way I hope," Palmer texted Bickley. Palmer essentially confirmed an NFL Network report via the text message after Ian Rapoport reported Palmer feels "tired, worn down, and trying to see how his body responds" after "the most physically trying season of his career." The Cardinals are hoping to get an answer from Palmer by mid-February so that they can adjust their offseason approach accordingly. Palmer turned 37 in December.

Damn... these guys take such a pounding. Reading this stuff and waiting this long without answers makes me feel more and more that they're done. The idea that there isn't still raging fire inside them just doesn't bode well. I can't imagine anyone putting themselves through the physical beating all of these guys take without having an inferno to play blazing inside them.

Jurecki just mentioned on Fox 10 Sports night that if Palmer hangs it up, ARZ WILL target Glennon as his replacement and if Larry retires they will look to replace him in the draft. Management wants decisions soon so they have time to plan free agency.

Not sold on Glennon would be rebuilding mode....

If Palmer does indeed retire in the coming weeks, Keim has to pull the trigger & trade for either Jimmy G, McCarron or Glennon IMO.

Palmer is going to be closer to 38 than 37 when the season starts. Sounds as if his body is starting to object to the punishment taken over the years and Arians didn't help it by allowing him to get hit often. That and his QB coach is now the same age as Palmer. My gut feeling is Palmer is more likely to pack it in than play in 2017. I just hope he makes the decision sooner than later. I also think if Palmer goes Fitz will follow closely behind him. Fitz has nothing to prove and the window of another SB is pretty much closed if Palmer retires and that would be the only thing that would bring Fitz back. They would be smart to ask Larry to be some type of WR coach.

Actually as I think about it now, the hiring of Leftwich might be an indication that the team expects Palmer to retire, thus they now have a younger coach to work with young QBs.

If Palmer does hang it up, is there any way for Fitz to go somewhere else (with the organization's blessing) to try for a ring? He could get one more shot and the Cards might get something for it. Right now my desire for Fitz to retire with a ring is paramount and overrides even my hatred for the Patriots.

With the Rams and Niners being in FULL rebuild, we have as good a chance as any of winning the division. Glennon, Lynch/Semien (if Romo goes there) would be good. Spend money elsewhere..

Plus they still have Tom Moore, who's still able to connect with the youngin's.

Leftwich was in the Steelers system for several years as a backup to Rothlisberger while BA was the OC. He knows BA's system. IMO he will be working and developing the younger qbs. I think the Cards will draft one this year. Palmer is a student of the game and really studies game film. His need for a qb coach is minimal. The qb coach has little impact on whether or not Palmer will retire.

Very surprised by this Palmer news. I thought he was a lock.

The other thing that bothers me is their attitude. This "Oh I dunno" ho-hum mindset they both seem to have.

What I would have in their shoes, had I just played for 12+ years and it was coming to end, was a huge surge of "ALL RIGHT! THIS IS IT! 1 FINAL PUSH!"

Very similar to Steve smith Sr. He didnt go out half-heartedly. He wanted his final season to be his best. It wasnt, but thats not the point. His mindset was in the right place.
