Fiorentina fought back from 3-0 down at home to Poland's Jagiellonia Białystok as two extra-time goals sealed their passage to the Conference League last 16 despite defeat on the night.
Crystal Palace also advanced from Thursday's play-off second legs with Celje, Samsunspor, Rijeka and Sigma Olomouc. AZ Alkmaar and Lech Poznan beat Noah 4-1 and KuPS Kuopio 3-0 on aggregate respectively.
The second leg in Florence was expected to be a stroll given Fiorentina's 3-0 win in the first leg. However, the Serie A strugglers were forced into extra-time following Bartosz Mazurek's hat-trick.
The Italians risked joining Champions League flops Inter and Juventus in going out of Europe this week, but Nicolò Fagioli's stunner lit up the Stadio Artemio Franchi before Taras Romanczuk's own goal.
There was more drama with Jesús Imaz giving the Poles late hope. Bernardo Vital's red card for Jagiellonia ended the chaos as Fiorentina lost the second leg 4-2 but progressed 5-4 on aggregate.
"We could have managed it better. We know we need to improve in many areas," Fiorentina midfielder Giovanni Fabbian told Sky.
"The important thing is that the team have advanced. These are moments that happen in football; on paper, they’re straightforward games, but in modern football, there are no truly simple matches."
They face Racing Strasbourg or another Polish side Raków Częstochowa following Friday's draw. The last 16 first legs are on March 12.
A first-half header from Maxence Lacroix and fellow Frenchman Evann Guessand's late goal gave Palace a 2-0 win in south London over Zrinjski Mostar to go with the 1-1 draw in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Selhurst Park has seen growing frustrations in the Premier League after coach Oliver Glasner said he was leaving at the end of the season. But a last 16 meeting with Mainz or Larnaca now awaits.
Slovenian side Celje glided into the last 16 with a 3-2 success over Kosovo's Drita adding to their first-leg win for a 6-4 overall score.
Celje's progression comes despite coach Albert Riera leaving for Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of January.
Turkey's Samsunspor beat North Macedonian side Shkëndija 4-0 at home for a 5-0 aggregate progression and Rijeka got past Cypriot team Omonoia 3-1 on the night in Croatia and 4-1 across both legs.
Czechs Olomouc had a memorable night in Lausanne as they won 2-1 for a 3-2 aggregate success over the Swiss side, who had a goal ruled out for offside by VAR at the death.
