The 2025-26 season is in the books for the Philadelphia 76ers, which means it is the time to look back on the season that was for each player. The Sixers finished 45-37 and as the No. 7 seed for the Eastern Conference playoffs before upsetting the Boston Celtics in Round 1 and falling to the New York Knicks in Round 2. They had to battle through a tough season injury-wise, but there were some good moments for everybody on the roster.
This series continues with Kelly Oubre Jr. who wrapped up his third season with the team. The 11-year veteran out of Kansas had himself a solid season as he was a positive for this group on a nightly basis. He battled his own injury issues between a knee issue, an elbow problem, and then an adductor in the playoffs, but Oubre was able to be a big key to this team's success.
Here is a final review of Oubre's 2025-26 season in Philadelphia:
The Sixers relied on Oubre to both be a scorer and to take on tough assignments on the defensive end of the floor. He did so at a high level as he shot a career-high from 3-point range, was a pest on the defensive end, and moved so well without the basketball to be available for easy looks at the basket as he found the open seams in opposing team's defensive schemes. He had a season-high 30 points along with 12 rebounds in a win over the Memphis Grizzlies on March 10.
Oubre's playoff numbers weren't great as he shot only 25.6% from deep in the 11 games, but that is mostly due to the fact that he had to expend so much energy on the defensive end. He had to defend Celtics stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown before then having to take on Knicks star Jalen Brunson. He never complained or got down on himself. He just kept working and gave the Sixers a big boost every night.
The Sixers need a guy like Oubre on the roster as he is somebody who is willing to do a variety of different things in order to help a team win. He is somebody who is a strong defender, can knock down open shots, and is able to move without the basketball in order to keep the offense moving in the right direction. Sure, the playoff numbers were down, but Oubre plays an important role for this group on a nightly basis.
Final grade: B-plus
