The 2024-25 season is in the books for the Philadelphia 76ers, which means it is the time to look back on the season that was for each player. The Sixers finished 24-58 as they missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2016-17 season amid a slew of injuries.
The Sixers used a grand total of 30 players throughout the season and an NBA record 53 starting lineups. This series will focus on the 15 players on standard deals and the three on two-way deals to finish the season--not anybody who finished the season on a 10-day deal.
Up next in this series is rookie forward Justin Edwards. The Sixers signed him to a two-way deal after he went undrafted out of Kentucky and the Philadelphia native made so much of an impact that he earned himself a standard deal.
Here is a look at the season Edwards was able to have as a rookie:
Much like with fellow rookie Adem Bona, the Sixers didn't expect for Edwards to play as much as he did in 2024-25. He plays at a position with a lot of depth for Philadelphia, and if healthy, Edwards would probably not have played as much, but he did a terrific job in his minutes. The Sixers were able to rely on him on both ends of the floor as they had him defend some of the better scorers on the opposition, and he was a reliable catch-and-shoot option. Per NBA Stats, he shot 36.3% from deep on catch-and-shoot opportunities which is a huge help for this specific roster.
Edwards hit 25 points twice in his rookie season, but his best all around game came in a March 26 loss to the Washington Wizards. The rookie went for 19 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals while shooting 9-for-15 from the floor.
Overall, Edwards couldn't have drawn up his rookie season any better. The Sixers were able to get so much out of him which gives him a jumping point for his second season in the league and beyond. Philadelphia will continue to develop him and one has to wonder if he has a rotation spot locked for the 2025-26 season as he moves forward.
Final grade: A
