DOVER − The NASCAR All-Star race at Dover Motor Speedway got off to an inauspicious start when several cars crashed on Lap 2.

That included the back of Ryan Preece's No. 60 car catching on fire. The fire was quickly put out, and Preece was able to get out safely.

A total of 10 cars were involved in the crash, including Preece, Ryan Blaney, Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell and Todd Gilliland. It's not known yet if any of those cars can return.

Cole Custer's car crashed into the wall as a result. He, too, was extricated from his car.

The crash started as Preece and Gilliland bumped, snaring 10 cars in the pileup, including former All-Star winners in Larson, Blaney and Bell.

The All-Star race format consists of three segments. This was the first of two 75-lap segments to help determine the final segment of 200 laps. In that final segment, 26 drivers will race for the $1 million prize.

Some of the drivers involved in the crash have already qualified for the final segment based on previous victories. It's just a question of if they can repair their cars in time to run those laps.
