Felix Rosenqvist won the closest 1-2 finish in Indianapolis 500 history, winning a one-lap shootout on the 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval Sunday.
Rosenqvist passed David Malukas on the last straightaway and gets to the line 0.0233 seconds ahead. Scott McLaughlin took third. Fifteen drivers finish with 1 second of Rosenqvist.
The previous closest finish came in 1992, when Al Unser Jr. edged Scott Goodyear by 0.043 seconds.
The wild finish comes after a late red flag and a caution that left 1 lap remaining with all-out racing. The race had a record 70 passes for the lead, breaking the mark of 68 when Tony Kanaan won in 2013.
Alex Palou, who started from pole position in search of a second consecutive race win, took seventh.
Katherine Legge, the first woman attempting the Indy 500-NASCAR "Double," crashes early and finished 33rd.
This is a developing story. Check back for more updates.
