As winter sports finished their seasons in the West Texas, Concho Valley and San Angelo areas and programs now shift their attention to spring sports, the Standard-Times will continue accepting nominations for City National Bank Athlete of the Week throughout the high school sports year.

Plenty of action and outstanding performances are left in the high school sports season. Local softball and baseball teams work through district schedules, while track and field athletes compete in the UIL championship season.

The Standard-Times will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.

Several standouts were nominated for the most recent City National Bank Athlete of the Week award.

Nominees​


Kam Aguero, Sonora track – He finished first in the Class 2A Region I boys 400-meter dash with a time of 50.48.

Khloe Bolander, Christoval track – She finished first in the Class 2A Region I girls pole vault event with a height of 10-06.00.

Kason Brown, Reagan County track – He won the Class 2A Region I boys 200-meter dash with a time of 21.37.

Tevin Meade, Miles track – He finished second in the Class 2A Region I boys 100-meter dash event with a time of 10.92.

Bryanna Munoz, Colorado City softball – In two games, she batted .417 with 10 RBIs and four home runs.

Mia Obenhaus, Colorado City softball – In two games, she had 18 strikeouts in nine innings pitched. She also batted .800 with eight hits, four RBIs and three runs.

Lexi Slaughter, Wall track – She placed second in the Class 3A Region I girls 400-meter dash with a time of 57.85.

Don Diego Rios, Big Spring track – He got first place in the Class 4A Region I boys 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.23.

How to nominate for the next award​


Nominations for next week's award are due by 5 p.m. Monday and can be submitted through email at [email protected] or by messaging the Standard-Times on X (formerly known as Twitter) @sast_sports.

Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will start Tuesday and close at 11 a.m. Thursday. The winners will be announced afterward.

Athletes who win Athlete of the Week can not win the award twice for the same sport. An athlete can be nominated in a different sport, but can't win the award more than three times in a school year.
