The San Francisco 49ers’ backfield is getting a little more crowded. On Monday, April 27, 2026, the team announced they have agreed to terms with former Las Vegas Raiders running back Sincere McCormick.

The signing, first reported by the 25 year old’s representation at Black Label Sports Group, brings a familiar face back to Santa Clara as the team transitions from the draft into the summer program.

A Familiar Landing Spot

This isn't McCormick’s first stint in red and gold. The 5’9”, 204 pound back originally joined the 49ers’ practice squad in August 2025. He spent nearly three months learning Kyle Shanahan’s complex outside zone scheme before being released on November 18.

Following his departure from San Francisco last season, McCormick became a bit of an NFL journeyman, spending time on the practice squads of the Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos, and Minnesota Vikings. While he didn't see the field in 2025, the 49ers clearly saw enough during his previous tenure to warrant a second look.

The Raiders Resume

McCormick’s most significant NFL production came in 2024 with the Raiders. During that campaign, he appeared in five games (including two starts), recording:

  • 39 carries for 183 rushing yards (4.7 average)
  • 6 receptions for 29 receiving yards
  • 45 total touches for 212 yards from scrimmage

Prior to the NFL, McCormick was a standout at UTSA, where he was a two time Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year and an AP Third Team All-American in 2021.

The 49ers’ Logjam at Running Back

McCormick enters a room that is suddenly overflowing with talent and competition. With the 49ers having already signed cornerback Jack Jones and defensive lineman Cameron Sample to one year deals this week, McCormick will have to battle for a spot on a depth chart that includes:

  • Christian McCaffrey: The undisputed workhorse and starter.
  • Jordan James: The versatile secondary option.
  • Isaac Guerendo: A second year speedster looking to carve out a bigger role.
  • Kaelon Black: The 49ers’ controversial 90th overall pick from last week's draft.

Roster Fallout

Because the 49ers’ roster was already near capacity following the draft and the addition of eight undrafted free agents, the team will need to make a corresponding roster move to officially accommodate McCormick. For McCormick, he needs to prove he is more than just a practice squad fallback. With his 4.7 yards per carry pedigree and previous knowledge of the playbook, he’ll be a name to watch as the Niners head toward training camp.
