dpatop - 03 July 2026, Hesse, Frankfurt am Main: The DFB logo and a banner displaying the dates of the World Cup are visible in front of the DFB Campus. According to consistent media reports, J. Nagelsmann is stepping down as head coach of the German national team following the team's elimination in the round of 32 at the World Cup. When the announcement hit that Julian Nagelsmann was going to resign, it was clear that the former head coach was not going to be the only one impacted.
Kicker (via @iMiaSanMia) had information about a more widespread action for change:
The DFB are considering a more drastic change than just the coach. In addition to Nagelsmann, the future of sporting director Rudi Völler and managing director Andreas Rettig is also uncertain. A meeting of the DFB supervisory board is taking place today to make the decisions.
As it turns out, Kicker was correct. Andreas Rettig also resigned from his role within the DFB (as captured by @iMiaSanMia):
Official: DFB managing director Andreas Rettig announces that he will not be extending his contract, which expires at the end of this year.
While this is not wholly unexpected, these also might not be the final moves for the DFB, which needs to make massive, organizational moves with personnel and strategy to improve German international football.
