According to a report from NFL insider Mike Garafolo, the Atlanta Falcons have agreed to terms with veteran kick returner/wide receiver Jamal Agnew on a one-year, $2.5 million contract. The 29-year-old played for Falcons special teams coordinator Marquice Williams when the two were in Detroit.
Agnew was drafted by the Lions in the fifth round of the 2017 draft and spent his first three seasons playing defensive back. During Angew's final year in Detroit, the team moved him to wide receiver.
Over seven NFL seasons, Agnew has recorded 77 catches for 746 receiving yards and five touchdowns. He has returned 124 punts for 1,280 yards and four touchdowns, and 122 kickoffs for 3,112 yards and two touchdowns.
Agnew did not play in 2024 as he recovered from a broken leg he suffered in 2023. After spending four seasons in Detroit, he spent three seasons in Jacksonville where he made a Pro Bowl in 2022. The Falcons did not re-sign Avery Williams, who eventually landed with the Philadelphia Eagles, leaving a need for an experienced kick returner.
