YORKTOWN—The Indiana Golf Association’s Junior Tour made its final stop of the summer with the Junior Tour Championship at TPC Woodland Trails in Yorktown with juniors Isaac Fair from Frankton and Addison Goen of Anderson finishing in the middle of the pack.
In the 16-19 age divisions, Fair carded a 7-over par 79 to place 13th in the 25-player boys field while Goen finished up with a 13-over par 85 and tied for sixth in the 13-player girls tournament.
Fair’s round was highlighted a 1-under par showing on the front nine with three birdies. He opened with a bogey on the first, but followed with a birdie on the par-five second and remained at even-par until a bogey on the fourth. With birdies on the par-four sixth and eighth holes, Fair finished the last five holes on the front nine at 2-under par to make the turn at 35.
The back nine proved to be more difficult for Fair with no birdies, three bogeys, and a tough score of nine on the par-four 16th that bloated his overall score to seven-over par for the day.
For the summer, Fair averaged 77.25 with a best round of 73 on July 14 at the Muncie Elks. He posted a total of five sub-80 rounds on the tour and was runner-up twice, first at Woodland Trails in June and again with that 73 at the Elks.
In similar fashion, Goen enjoyed a strong first nine holes before struggling on the inward nine.
After converting consecutive birdies on the par-three seventh and par-four eighth, Goen made the turn at two-over par 38. But the Indians standout made triple-bogey on back-to-back holes to start the back nine and finished the second half of her round in 11-over par.
One of the busiest players on the tour this summer, Goen placed in the top 10 in 10 of her 17 outings including a runner-up finish last week at Cascades and third-place finishes at Round Barn Golf Club and the Richmond Elks. She averaged 86.45 over the course of the summer with a best 18-hole score of 82 at Cascades.
Goen and the Indians will open their high school season Thursday, Aug. 6 at Richmond. She will look to repeat as an All-Madison County performer and hopes to be in the mix as an advancing player once the postseason begins.
