FYI for those not interested in reading it.
With all the many negative things that can be said of Michael Bidwill’s leadership, being cheap is not factually correct. Cardinals are at 16th in cash spending (actual money leaving his pocket) over the last 5 years. I thought it would be lower

i think the real spending started around kyler - keim convinced mikey it was time - but i don't think we spent much during monti's first year here

Just from a quick glance, it looks like most of the bottom teams has not given out a huge QB contract recently which would have a huge impact. Lots of mid vet QBs and rookie QBs in that group.

I think that's largely an artifact of the DHop, Watt, and Hudson deals.

Yeah, the big spending happened in Keim's last two years and this off-season. But money was still spend
Fun tab here.

In 2025 the Cards are 29th in cash-to-cap spending. Cards were 7th in FA spending in 2025, but 11th in full guarantees.

Josh Sweat only has one void year on his deal. Dalvin Tomlinson has three, but only $5.1 million will accelerate.

We're still seventh in cap space in the NFL right now. It's not like we went on a spending binge this offseason.

Never claimed that Monti went crazy. But money was spend.

As I wrote in my off-season analysis, I would have like one more big signing - Fries.

More money could have been spend, but not sure to what purpose if Monti wanted to go crazy. Quality of Free Agent class was not there and there are so many young players on the roster.

How about if we eliminate void years? They serve no purpose.
They serve the purpose of spreading out the signing bonus and garantees over more years. Lessens the cap impact now/short term, but creates dead space if the player is cut.

It’s basicly what the article mentions about clearing cap. That cap hit accumulates and teams can kick the can forward or take a cap clearance year - what the 49ers are dealing with now.
