Former Akron Zips basketball great Enrique Freeman will host a basketball camp for children 6-12 at the Wentz Financial Player Development Center, July 25.
The “For the City Summer Skills Basketball Camp” will focus on basketball fundamentals and is open to boys and girls. It will serve as a fundraiser for the Freeman Family Foundation which has a goal to provide opportunities and mentorship for youth in the Akron-Cleveland area.
Sponsored by Jr. NBA, the official youth basketball program of the league, will have two sessions. Boys and girls from ages 6-9 will receive instruction from 9:30-11:30 a.m. with 10-12-year-olds beginning at noon and ending at 2 p.m.
Freeman, who starred with the Zips and was the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year in 2023-24 and conference defensive player of the year in the 2020-21 season.
He appeared in for games for Minnesota last season and averaged 3.3 points and 2.5 rebounds last season. He signed a two-way deal with Minnesota earlier this month, and he's listed on the team's summer league roster.
