Former Boston Red Sox All-Star and World Series champion closer Craig Kimbrel signed with the Tampa Bay Rays less than one week ago.

Kimbrel was placed on the injured list Sunday after just one relief appearance with the AL East leaders.

"The Tampa Bay Rays have made the following roster moves: • Placed RHP Craig Kimbrel (right wrist strain) on the 15-day IL (retro May 28). • Recalled LHP Cam Booser and RHP Trevor Martin from Triple-A Durham. • Designated RHP Andrew Wantz for assignment," the official account of the Rays communications department posted on X.

The Tampa Bay Rays have made the following roster moves:

• Placed RHP Craig Kimbrel (right wrist strain) on the 15-day IL (retro May 28).
• Recalled LHP Cam Booser and RHP Trevor Martin from Triple-A Durham.
• Designated RHP Andrew Wantz for assignment.

The 38-year-old right-hander signed with the New York Mets in January and allowed 10 earned runs across 16 innings pitched covering 15 games this spring before being designated for assignment on May 22.

Kimbrel played three seasons with the Red Sox from 2016 to 2018, earning All-Star honors each year and helping Boston win its most recent World Series title during his final campaign with the club.

The former NL Rookie of the Year ranks second on MLB's saves list (440) among active players, trailing only fellow former Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen (483), who was placed on the IL by the Detroit Tigers on Thursday.
