One of the biggest storylines of the 2025 offseason was the Los Angeles Rams moving on from Cooper Kupp, only for him to almost immediately join his old team's biggest division rival in the Seattle Seahawks. And while Kupp didn't have as a big of a role with the Seahawks as he did with the Rams, he played a part in Seattle's road to Super Bowl LX.
It wasn't a shock to see Kupp join the Seahawks, mainly because he's from the state of Washington and went to school at Eastern Washington. However, Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV was also reportedly a key part of Kupp's recruitment.
According to The Athletic's Michael-Shawn Dugar, Jones helped sell the idea of the Seahawks to Kupp. Jones and Kupp played together on the Rams from 2021 to 2023, which included the year L.A. won the Super Bowl. Jones reportedly hyped up the Seahawks' young linebackers Drake Thomas and Tyrice Knight.
Jones had a solid three-year stint with the Rams that included 320 combined tackles, 5.5 sacks and three interceptions. He was traded to the Tennessee Titans before the 2024 season and then traded to the Seahawks midway through the 2024 season.
Kupp, meanwhile, was one of the Rams' most prolific receivers during his time in L.A. He caught 634 passes for 7,776 yards and 57 touchdowns, including his incredible 2021 triple-crown season, where Kupp finished with 145 receptions for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns — all of which led the NFL that year. He also won Super Bowl MVP.
Kupp's exodus from the Rams has been much discussed recently, including reports that the Rams urged him to retire rather than release him. And now, he'll be playing in his second Super Bowl.
