One of the greatest individual seasons in Carolina Panthers history started with a little reality check.

Seattle Seahawks pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jake Peetz joined this week's episode of NFL Spotlight with Ari Meirov. Before serving as part of the staff for the reigning Super Bowl champs in 2025, the 41-year-old spent a pair of seasons in Carolina—as their running backs coach in 2019 and their quarterbacks coach in 2020.

He recalled a tough conversation with then-Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey—who, according to Peetz, was one of the worst pass-blocking rushers in the league. Take a listen . . .

“The thing I told Christian [McCaffrey] is, ‘I think you’re one of the worst RBs in the league in pass protection.’”

With Peetz's help in 2019, McCaffrey went on to become just the third player in NFL history to turn in a season of at least 1,000 rushing yards and at least 1,000 receiving yards. His blocking wasn't too shabby either, as Pro Football Focus graded him out at a 75.5—which currently stands as the second-highest mark in that department over his nine-year career.

McCaffrey would then be traded three years later, to the San Francisco 49ers. He's since captured three Pro Bowl selections, two first-team All-Pro nods, the AP Offensive Player of the Year award and the AP Comeback Player of the Year award since the move.
