ESPN has parted ways with long-time NFL analyst Ryan Clark, ending an 11-year tenure at the network that began after his playing career.
Clark, who started his NFL journey as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants in 2002, learned of the decision during Monday’s broadcast of NFL Live and did not complete the show.
The move comes amid broader layoffs at ESPN and NFL Network ahead of the network’s first Super Bowl broadcast.
Clark, who earned approximately $2 million annually, had been expected to play a prominent role in ESPN’s Super Bowl LXI coverage. Reports cited internal frustrations with Clark’s on-air and off-air interactions with colleagues, including a notable September 2025 exchange on Get Up with Peter Schrager in which Clark referenced Schrager’s lack of playing experience.
A 13-year NFL veteran and Super Bowl XLIII champion primarily with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Clark transitioned successfully to broadcasting, becoming a regular on NFL Live, Monday Night Countdown, First Take, and Get Up. He also hosts The Pivot podcast and Inside the NFL.
ESPN’s decision reflects ongoing adjustments to its NFL coverage lineup as the network navigates cost considerations and programming changes. Clark retains opportunities through his podcast and other projects.
